Hyundai has unveiled the ELEXIO, its first electric SUV specifically designed for the Chinese market, marking a significant step in its "In China, For China" strategy. Developed over five years through the Beijing Hyundai joint venture with BAIC Motor, the ELEXIO is built on Hyundai's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and is set to launch in the third quarter of 2025.

Performance and Charging

  • Range: The ELEXIO boasts a driving range of over 700 kilometers (approximately 435 miles) on the CLTC cycle, addressing range anxiety for long-distance travel. 

  • Charging: Equipped with 800V fast-charging technology, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes.

Advanced Technology

  • Infotainment: Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, the ELEXIO features a 27-inch head-up display and supports AI-driven voice controls through large language model (LLM) integration. 

  • Driver Assistance: The vehicle includes Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) developed in collaboration with Huawei, offering features like lane centering and adaptive cruise control. 


Design and Interior

  • Exterior: The ELEXIO features a distinctive design with crystal-inspired daytime running lights incorporating the number "8," symbolizing luck in Chinese culture. It also includes a through-type light strip, illuminated logo, and a two-tone front bumper.

  • Interior: While full interior details are yet to be revealed, expectations include a minimalist, button-free dashboard, premium materials, and a wraparound cockpit design to enhance luxury and technology.

  • Localization: Hyundai's $1.1 billion investment in its Beijing Hyundai joint venture underscores its commitment to local manufacturing and R&D, aiming to create China-centric EVs and boost exports. 

  • Market Goals: The ELEXIO is part of Hyundai's broader strategy to electrify its fleet and regain market share in China's competitive EV sector, targeting both domestic consumers and international markets.
