Marc Marquez secured another double after he won Grand Prix Netherlands on Sunday afternoon in Assen, and TNT Sports pundit Neil Hodgson believes that he is now on the cusp of yet another world championship. Hodgson said that if the Ducati Lenovo rider wins at Grand Prix Germany in a fortnight, he will almost certainly become the MotoGP king once more.

Neil Hodgson believes that a win at Grand Prix Germany would put Marc Marquez on the cusp of the MotoGP world title.
Marquez won the Sprint and full-length race at Grand Prix Netherlands, despite suffering two big crashes on Friday.

The Spaniard extended his lead at the top of the standings to 68 points after his younger brother, Aprilia rider Alex Marquez, crashed out during the action on Sunday.

Former world champion Marquez swept into the lead early and withstood a strong challenge from Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi to complete a clean sweep of both races at Assen.
Speaking shortly after Marquez crossed the finish line, Hodgson hailed a remarkable effort from the winner.
He said on TNT Sports: "I’m trying to think of the last time a rider won both races when he wasn't the fastest rider on the track.
"I know that sounds strange, he just had a way around this track. He was impossible to pass.

"The first [crash] had a massive impact. He lost feeling in his hand. The second, it was a scary-looking crash.
"We didn’t know if he would race in the weekend. He cut his chin, he’s had six stitches in his chin. He was proper beat up.

"He looked second hand, but he did what we’ve seen him do so many times. It was shades of the old Marc Marquez. I genuinely did not expect this."
With the race coming up at Grand Prix Germany in a fortnight, live on TNT Sports and discovery+, Hodgson predicted another win would all but seal the title for Marquez.
He said: "At Saxony, if he does the double there, it’s almost done."

'Heading to Madrid for surgery' - Alex Marquez suffers huge title blow at Grand Prix Netherlands after crash as Marc Marquez championship lead grows

Alex Marquez suffered twin disappointments on Sunday at Grand Prix Netherlands. The BK8 Gresini rider crashed out of the race as his brother Marc took another double victory, further extending his lead at the top of the world championship leaderboard. That disappointment was compounded by news from his team that he had suffered a broken left hand, and would require surgery.

Alex Marquez has suffered a broken left hand during a crash at Grand Prix Netherlands, BK8 Gresini Racing confirmed.
Marquez is second in the world championship, behind his older brother, Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez, who won Sunday's race.

Alex suffered a crash midway through the action in Assen and was unable to rejoin, with news later emerging of his injury.
He is currently 68 points behind in the race for the title, but could face an extended period on the sidelines as he recovers from the injury.
His team wrote on X: "Broken left hand for @alexmarquez73. (Second metacarpal neck fracture) Heading to Madrid for surgery #tonite [sic] #DutchGP".

The closest challenger to the older Marquez brother is his Ducati team-mate Fabio Bagnaia, on 181 points compared to Marquez’s 307.
The injury could end this season's title race as a contest, given the wide margin already established between top spot and No. 2 and No. 3, and any absence for Alex could give his brother the chance to widen the gap.
